Shance is a free internet speed test and IP check.

What it does

• Speed test — download and upload speed, unloaded and loaded latency, and jitter. Open the page and it starts right away.
• IP check — the IP address that Chinese sites, international sites and Google each see, so you can tell whether split routing or your proxy is working.
• Site reachability — whether common sites such as Google, YouTube, GitHub and ChatGPT are reachable, and how fast they respond.

How we measure

Your browser downloads and uploads random, incompressible data to the nearest Shance test server over several parallel connections for about 10 seconds each. The first 2 seconds are ignored so that TCP slow start doesn't drag the result down. Latency is the median of 15 small requests, and loaded latency is measured while the test is running, which reveals bufferbloat.

Results depend on your device, browser, Wi-Fi and other traffic on your network. For the most accurate result, use a wired connection and close other downloads.

Test servers

Test servers run in high-bandwidth data centers across several regions, over HTTPS with no CDN in between, so you measure the real speed to the server. The page picks the server with the lowest latency automatically; you can switch servers at the top of the speed test page.
