Privacy Policy
Shance doesn't require an account, doesn't use tracking cookies or analytics, and doesn't sell your data. This page explains exactly what happens when you use it.
Speed test
- Your browser connects directly to a Shance test server. Like any website, the server sees your IP address; the page shows it back to you as "Client".
- We don't store your test results. Speeds, latency and data usage are calculated in your browser and disappear when you close the page.
- To prevent abuse, each test server keeps your IP address and the amount of data you've used in memory for up to one hour, to enforce per-IP limits. This isn't written to disk.
- Servers may record IP addresses in error logs (for example, a failed secure connection) for security and troubleshooting. These logs are kept only as long as needed for those purposes.
IP check
To show which IP address different networks see, your browser contacts these services directly. Each one receives your IP address and handles it under its own privacy policy:
- ipip.net — IP address seen from mainland China
- ipinfo.io and Cloudflare — IP address and location seen from outside China
- A small service we run on Google Cloud (appspot.com) — IP address seen when reaching Google
- The sites listed under "Site reachability" (such as Baidu, Google, GitHub) — your browser requests a small file from each to measure response time
Stored on your device
The only thing we store in your browser is your language choice (local storage). You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
Hosting
The website may be served through a hosting or CDN provider, which processes standard request data such as IP address and browser type to deliver the page.
Children
Shance isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If we change how data is handled, we'll update this page and the date above.
